about

“The song itself came after I was asked to perform at a Bowie tribute night a week or two after he’d died. I didn’t want to do a ‘Starman’ cover because I thought David deserved a bit more than that. Even though I didn't have any of Bowie’s albums I was surprised at how shocked and upset I felt at his death. My Mum had given me an accordion for my Birthday, and with it I formed a little nonsense ditty that starts as a folk song, then Ben and Jonny slip in midway , and it ends with stars exploding" Mik Artistik, March 2017

David Bowie Was A Funny Man (Lyrics by Mik Artistik)

David Bowie was a funny man
He lived in space in a little tin can,
Actually he didn't he lived in Stoke,
but that was just one of his jokes.
I miss him and I would have liked to kiss him and shake his hand.
He was a funny man

Sometimes he sing in American, sometime he sing in Cockney,
even though his dad was from Donny.
How he managed to survive on an egg a day I'll never understand.
He was a funny man

At Christmas he'd have a Malteser.
He had fag burns all over his quilt he was an anxious geezer.
He probably never had a bag of chips in his life,
except silicon chips ,
when he was doing his downloads,
and his sonic experiments,
with Robert Fripp

And when he were alive , England won the World Cup (Golden Years)

Sometimes the police were called cos they thought he was a druggie,
but he'd tell em a joke and then they'd go away.
He was a funny man

When he sacked the Spiders from Mars he needed another backing band,
So who did he turn to?
Where did he go??
He ran for the Shadows ,
ran for the Shadows
ran for the Shadows

And when he invented the onesy ,he felt like a king again,
he was back on top,
order was restored,
he knew which way the wind was blowing.

I think he was sad about the floods when he was in New York (on Broadway)
Thinking about all his soggy relatives in Donny.
And he remembers standing in the stands watching Donny against Man U
and he'd be chantin'
WAH WAH WAH

WAH WAH WAH

Georgie Best wears a dress
and so do I.
It fits like a glove
WAH WAH WAH
